1) the most important thing to take into account is the level of protection afforded.

That is the only reason to buy one.

2) You also need to think about the weight; obviously the lighter the better.

3) In addition, you must make sure that the fit is correct.

In some cases, you’ll find that you just can’t get a particular model to fit your head.

4) Ventilation is also important when you ride in hot conditions.

5) Finally, consider the look of the helmet and the price.

Here is our take on the top helmets ranging from the ultra expensive to entry level. In some cases you should watch the video included if we have considered that to be helpful.

The Giro Aeon has top level protection and comes in a range of thirteen color combinations so you’re bound to find one that suits you.

It is extremely light weight and has the Giro Roc Loc 5 fit system.

With this you can simply dial-in fit and tension and adjust the vertical position with one hand.

Twist the dial with two fingers for a slightly tighter feel over rough ground, or ease it off a notch on the flat.

Ventilation has been developed in a wind tunnel and ensures that the rider keeps cool at all times.

Although described as a road bike helmet, the Giro Aeon can be used on any bike and in any circumstances. >> You can CLICK HERE to check out the latest discount and user’s reviews of this helmet on Amazon.

Comments

  1. I want concussion protection using new technology such as cone-head foam molding and/or mips slip plane technology. Cone head is most interesting to me though. I’ve crashed in to a plywood wall at an indoor mountain bike park, denting the wall and not even noticed a dent in my helmet. I likely had a small concussion as a result. I felt off balance and had headaches for a couple weeks. I want a helmet that will additionally deform on smaller impacts to prevent concussions that is CPSC certified (unlike the bern hardhat style helmets)

I want reflective features on my helmet. As a commuter year round, I’m riding in winter when it’s dark, and I want to be seen more. It only costs a couple bucks for a major manufacturer to add reflective decals and this should be a standard feature.

I also want a helmet that it is easy to attach helmet mounted accessories such as mountain bike light / battery, tail light, and / or goggle clip (for winter riding with ski goggles, as on my bern helmet). Some helmet are not very good at that, such as the bern watts, but some excel at it, like the giro hex. If the helmet has a built in visor, I want to be able to easily remove it.

I also want good ventilation, helmets with few vents for the sake of looking like skate helmets are only good in 40F or lower temps. Warmer than that, and I’ll be sweating up a storm.

The helmet has to fit well, actual sized helmets fit better than one size fits all. Dial adjustments like found on most giro and specialized helmets tend to do a great job and are easy to adjust on the fly.

  2. I’d throw in a helmet that has at least one vent hole large enough to lock up the helmet with my bike. Certainly that’s optional, but it’d be a nice option.
